Experts in Switzerland have successfully  developed a  rapid  technique  to detect the presence of  melamine  in liquid material, it was announced  the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (EPFZ)

Hazardous chemicals has become the center of conversation in a sensational food safety scandal in China since September last year. With this liquid material detection techniques, from previously took about 20 to 60 minutes, a new technique this Swiss team's findings could detect only about 30 seconds.

"The scientists used a new technique called 'mass spectometry' make time trimmed a lot," says Renato Zenobi, a professor of analytical chemistry at the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry at EPFZ. Mass spectometry is a technique used to measure the mass of atoms and molecules in materials or liquid materials.

The dairy farmers and wholesalers in China sparked controversy last year following the discovery of melamine in dairy products to increase protein content. In fact, these chemicals are commonly used to manufacture glue, resin, and palstik. Since the scandal erupted in September 2008, at least 300 000 children infected with the illness and six of them died.

The discovery of melamine had also been made tantrum milk consumers both in China and around the world. Therefore, many countries ban Chinese products made from milk
